Photo Safaris
Safari, the Swahili word for journey or expedition. You don’t have to be a hunter to go on safari. Come see the beauty and wonder that South Africa has to offer! South Africa is a land of mystery and wonder, with so many different types of terrain and ecosystems that you’ll hardly believe you’re in the same country! And we at OutdoorFrontiers Africa would be proud and happy to show it to you. Just make sure you bring lots of rolls of film or a stack of memory cards for your digital camera, because you’ll need them!
We’ll work with you to find out what it is you REALLY want to see and start out there. Then we can make suggestions based on our experiences so you can experience things that your friends and neighbors have only seen in National Geographic or on the Discovery Channel.
SAMPLE ITINERARY
There are two jumping off points, Johannesburg and Cape Town. If starting from Johannesburg, how about a two day tour of the Kruger National Park? The Kruger National Park is known world-wide for its natural beauty and its game herds.
If the tour starts in Cape Town and then a whole lot of activities could be done! There is the cable track up Table Mountain. Robben Island is where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. for you history buffs. The Castle in Cape Town, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, the Parliament Tour (similar to the American White House), are also popular travel destinations.
From there, off to the Eastern Highveld which also has beautiful nature scenes, but is less known than Kruger National Park. Then into KwaZulu-Natal for the magnificent mountain scenery and the Drakensberg for something a little different, coastal woodlands. Fishing, scuba diving and golf are local activities.
Then to Port Elizabeth and start the Garden Route from there. This is a lot of driving around, but then again, South Africa is a lot of country!
If botany and flowers are more to your liking, we could do Namaqualand, well-known for it’s flowers. South Africa has some world class vineyards and wineries. The Cape Wine
Route is a popular tour, where wine and cheese tasting is quite an experience.
If water sports are more to your liking, Shark diving (in cages), is an experience, and then do the Garden Route where you can get “high on life” with a canopy tour on ropes through the Knysna Forest and sleep over on a boat on the Knysna Lagoon and do some oyster tasting.
We could do a boat tour of Rob Island where thousands of seals lives and we could do a helicopter tour over the island to see some Great White Sharks in action hunting for seals.
We could also visit Oudtshoorn on our way where we could do a visit to an ostrich farm and ride some of these huge birds. Nearby, there is also a crocodile farm and a cheetah sanctuary to visit.
We could tour the world famous Cango caves and go for a ride on some camels. If you’re more the adventurous type, the world’s highest Bungi Jump is also on this route and the Tsitsikama forest could be visited.
After the Garden Route, it’s off to the Addo National Elephant Park and also a tour of Shamwari (the worlds best private nature reserve) where the Big Five (elephant, rhinoceros, hippo, cape buffalo, lion and leopard) could be seen in one day.
Finally, it’s back to the Port Elizabeth or Cape Town airport and your return home. This is at least a ten day tour to do it right!
