Todays a great day to be out if hunting, lousy day ovrall rain etc.

But on the way into get supplies saw a tom by himself with 3 hens 1/8 mile on each side of him ,7 all told.Hens uninterested in the tom,yet he stood yp and looked all around like where did everyone go.So not a calling thing for some reason now, just get out an walk up onem.

Is it legal to use a 22 with a scope be easy to head shoot one?

Today wasn't even a bad day to get out fishing, which is what I did.

I've been out turkey hunting six days now, and have yet to see a bird, tom OR hen!  Yell

And no, in Tennessee it isn't legal to use a rifle.  Although some of the western states do allow it!  Personally, I think a scoped .17 HMR or .22 Magnum would absolutely rock for a turkey gun….

Well, my weekend didn't exactly work out as planned…

Friday evening, I went out and roosted some birds on property that I have permission to hunt.  So Saturday morning, I was up, coffee'd and out of the house well before the sun coming up.

I knew roughly where the birds were, so it was just a matter of finding a good hiding place.  I found that with a large tree near the end of a small field.  I sat down with my back to this tree, with my silhouette broken up by some small saplings and other ground cover.  There I sat until the first tom sounded off with the rising sun.

I gave a couple hen yelps and three or four toms thundered back.  Not wanting to "overcall" to the toms, I'd let them gobble four or five times and then call again.  After about 45 minutes of this, I heard them fly down.  Thinking that they'd try to sneak in quietly, I sat frozen in place for the next half hour, calling only a couple times.  NOTHING!

I finally got up and walked all over the entire 32 acres, calling occasionally, hoping one of the toms would answer me.  NOTHING!  Evidently they flew down and walked straight off the property…  Yell

Saturday afternoon, I went back out and never even heard a turkey…

Sunday morning before church, I went out on some different property but didn't see or hear a single bird.  Sunday afternoon was too windy (turkeys don't like windy days) so I stayed home and mowed the lawn.

This morning, I got up at 5:00 and walked out on the porch.  The wind was howling, it was spitting rain and was generally not nice out at all.  So I went back to bed….  Confused

And that's my turkey hunting experience so far.  Now today we have tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, and it's ugly looking.  So I doubt if I'll be turkey hunting today either…

Heading out in 15 minutes for the Opening Day of the 2011 Tennessee Turkey Season.

I think I have a good spot, with fresh tracks.  Now, it's up to Henrietta (my decoy) and me to see if we can bag a bird.

Wish me luck!  Smile
