I'm not a big fan of deep water fishing either. First of all, it usually involves Carolina Rigging, dragging a jig, fishing big crankbaits or slow-rolling a spinnerbait. None of these methods do I find particularly enjoyable. I'd much rather get them with a frog, senko or spinnerbait in water less than 15 feet deep! But I do understand the need to fish deep in a tournament, without fish, you won't win, place OR show….
My feelings are that dead fish should be penalized like they are, and that these fish should be donated to a food pantry or kept by the angler. It bothers me to arrive at a landing the day after a tournament and find bass floating… And to release fish that won't survive is just irresponsible too!
But that's just my thoughts on the subject….

Yes my thoughts wernt off,he fished deep, told me about each hole,he made one mistake one place had a 4 ft hump off to the side which he did not fish,I did caught two off it,second one measured once barely then didnt later so put it back.
At that time he had none,he caught 5 fish off one hole in an hr using same bait as me and i couldnt get bit there, was a place wherre he had sunk willow trees 26 -28ft deep, and all his bites came off one side the front towards the main im in back fishing bay side, apparently fish liked the main side better.
All of his fish he had to fizz and two may not have made it after release as wernt actijg good but breathing.
My own opinion any dead fish should not be weighed at all,and certainly no culling a dead fish, would stop a lot of this deep crappy fishing.
My fish was scrappy wanted to jump all the way back to the lake from weighin his had to be helped. While he had more fish more weight ,bet 40 percent mortality.
Why some feel they have to fish deep is beyond me,active available fish were shallow near deep water.

Ended up with 5 rods, all my tackle, will downsize to one bag containg 4 plano boxes after I find out what hes doing, thus havnt left it at home lol.
Motel rooms arnt cheap, like here.Sign in at 4,meeting at 6 or 7 ,blastoff first light 5.10-5.20 ,first wave weighin at 2 pm.
Takin extra gas money in case have to haul a hefty check back home.(Fatchance).
Hoping it will be an enjoyable trip.Have frogs, but hope to be able to use them some.
Maybe at boat docks?Grass limited to back ends of bays and not milfoil.
Lucky charm is packed ,see ya.

The 300 lbs of support along with kitchen sink will be with me merely in the SUV,generally take my one bag and four or at most five rods, but alo find out at meeting what the guy is doing and often leave whats important at home. Will be packed for what I do then can change some accordingly in motel room.Motel rooms are expensive over there.
One with the same bait I caught my 4.34 on T rigged, one frog, one jig(blue-bluefleck),one topwater gsplash, one fluke or senko on spinning outfit. Both topwater plugs and buzzbaits are reported as working in mornings in backs of bays.
But who knows may draw a guy that fishes 25 ft ledges, and never gets near shore. Thus why the support tackle.

LOL, just remember what I bring when I would fish from your boat. One bag, filled with four Plano boxes, a couple extra bags of soft plastics and four rods. Two of those rods are baitcast rigs and two are medium light spinning rods and 10 pound line.
While I do carry about 16 different rods rigged and ready to go in MY boat, my feeling is that if I can't get the job done with four different rods and the tackle I've chosen, it isn't going to get done. Having the different rods already rigged simply keeps me from having to cut and retie to try different rigs.
I'd go with one baitcaster rigged for frogging first thing in the morning, the other tied up with either a buzzbait or a spinnerbait. Then I'd have one spinning rig tied up with a fluke, and the other with a Senko style lure.
That way, you're covered top to bottom. Then I'd have some worms of different sizes, styles and colors, plus various hooks and sinkers. I'd have a wide selection of spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in white with chrome and black and gold. Throw in some various crankbaits and jigs/trailers and you're covered.

Well, the way I see it, you're going out on new water with a guide. Your partner is more than likely someone that has spent a fair amount of time on the water and has some idea of what will work. All you have to do is relax, enjoy the day and concentrate on catching fish. Heck, you won't even have to worry about boat control, so all you have to do is fish a little better than the guy in the front of the boat.
