Rest assured I plan on giving 179 a work out. All other stated actions are in case 179 doesn't work. I've been on good spots before that for no particular reason dried up. Plan B, Plan C and Plan D are good things to have when that happens!

As for deep(er) who's to say one good fish each day couldn't come from 12-15' of water that time of year in the right places… Seen it happen way to many times to think it isn't possible. Maybe not a sack full but 1 5-7#er each day or any one day…. couldn't hurt!

There is a shallow spinnerbait bite at times,bu if you have need of other than the floating frog, horney toad fluke or senko and in 2 ft of water or less,.then its going to hunt for a bite with the other stuff.

While grass isnt prominent and could play a role, tradionally teh first four 95 percent of the time, would beat any deep cr ig ,jig bite going, that time of year.Agian grass is playing a role and mother nature may as well.

Id still bet you 100 bucks I could fish those and shallow at 179 and beat the stuffins out of your bag from deep water,I have been wrong occasionally will be again in another 20 years or so.

Best bet figgure out what patterns or how to catch those shallow fish in or around alternate veggies, they are there.

May be going down that way prior if so will relate what info i have at the time.Water is warmer than normal and needs to start that downslide in temp to trigger.

Most of the grass or alternate is past the rr bridge,in back pockets or bays.Bass bay being one of them. Some resemble cuts more than pockets and are small in size.Yet hold several keepers.

And if you have to resort to crigging toss a crigged dbbb.If you want one badly Steve has one hidden somewhere.

The only patterns up here i can think of without grass is those shallow points for schoolers and of course ledges. 3a,3b,4,7 ledges 9 thu 16 mouth of big sandy, inside main lake bouy line toss toward main lake, bunch just on other side of rr bridge main lake, which puts you next to bass bay, almost halfway to 179.

Ive put so much in will refrain in the future as time will tell.

My fluke colors are glimmer blue, watermellon and watermellon red. I ain't fount a'fish yet that wouldn't suck down one of them colors. I've got the pearl, green shad and a few others as well. If the fish are shallow they're there to eat. The fleeing shad will in most cases trigger the reaction bite. I chunk my flukes on a 7'6″ shimano rod with, it used to be a curado reel but now it will be on a 7.0 Revo STX. w/20# berkley radial braid.

I work a fluke many ways until I find what they want but most times, around grass edges, that hopping fleeing shad get's'em all excited – n' me too!

Still gotta order the honey toads….

Can't catch fish on a spinner bait on KYL!

Without being there….. My arsenal will consist of many things. But in the end I suspect I'll end up with 4-5 rods on the front deck when the money is on the line.

C'Rig

Frog

Fluke

Jig

Rat-l-trap

Finess rig

And one of those will see 80% of the duty – I suspect. If it's really… really tough fishing – C'rig or jig will be the direction I take working water 5'-20' with the c'rig and 0'-20' with the jig.

Actually the shad colored work fairly well, sort of a white and grey, and myself I like the magnum super fluke not to many shorts.Normal fluke works nicely,I use zoom mostly and it is a definate side to side action they desire here even if on top, failure of a bait to walk is about 50 percent less bites, either on top or below.

Didnt see the most important in either list DBBB.

Small chatterbaits in white combos 1/4 0z,work around isolated grass balls.

For bass busting father away a large topwater that one can heft ,keep it handy.

For those discriminating bass that wont eat anything its because you have the wrong size on they are eating butterbeans about the size of a lil george without the spinner or hooks, small size bass assasin sometimes others takes dynamite.

Credit card to make DBBB purchases, bank loan will suffice, can float it myself at 18 percent compounded daily.

While I make jokes about them they do work well in the fall and in or around jump areas even if not jumping.Yeah I know it just aint right.

Tell that to the fish.

I agree, different flukes will work differently.  But even though I have tried dozens of different brands, Zoom still works the best for me.

And while "fast and on top" will work, I've found that slow, with a wide swinging action produces quite a few fish when all else fails.  That's the reason why I typically fish flukes on a spinning rig and 10 lb. PowerPro.

There is really only three colors you'll need to pick up.  Pearl white, baby bass and white with black flecks.  I've got a bunch of different colors, but only those three have put bass in the boat on a consistent basis.

Don't forget junebug colored baby brush hogs either.  And some Zoom Horny Toads (black, junebug and watermelon candy)…

Some bleeding minnow Secret Weapon spinnerbaits wouldn't hurt either.

… don't give a damn who's naughty or nice….

Ok boy's n' girls…. countdown has begun. Just ordered the Navionics card for KYL and Barkley. Picked up some Berkley radial braid for my c'rig, ordered another Abu Revo STX – L(Tacklewarehouse is giving them away – if you're left handed), actually they sell for 199.99 and TW has a clearance sale on them letting them go for 120.00.(119.99). savin' 80 bucks. Can't beat that.

Starting to go over gear that'll be going with me. Making note of stuff I need more of. Super flukes is at the top of the list but some time this week I'm putting the boat in the water and I'm going to try several different brands of the fluke like offering. I swear I can get 1 out of about 5 rigged such that it works properly. Done right those thing hop n' jump out of the water just exactly like a fleeing bait fish – with very little effort. Rigged wrong and they just don't work the same you can still catch fish on'em but you have to work it much faster and harder trying to keep it on top. Sooo…. I'm gonna see if one of the other brands has a higher success ratio. I do know how to rig'em. And I've tried many different ways to rig'em where they'll work more consistently as they should – all to no avail. Aggrevating to no end. I go through anywhere from 4-6 bags of flukes in a single tournament. Not because the fish are tearing them up but because they won't work right. Rip'em off and rig another…. If the next one don't work I try multiple times to rig it so it'll work right… Sometimes I'm successful… sometimes not. If not… rip it off and put another'n on. I "ALMOST" hate it when a fish hits one that working really good 'cause I know how hard it is to get'em to work consistently.
