Yeah, up until I went to the gun show, I'd never seen a Diamondback pistol before either.  But I liked the look of the pistol, and with the fact that it doesn't have a safety, that pretty much sold me on the gun.  I'm left handed and just about every semi-auto out there either has a right hand shooter safety or is priced out of my league.  I figured if I bought it and didn't like it, I'd simply carry it to another gun show and sell it, then go buy something else.

Unlike other purchases, this is one that I researched AFTER I bought it.  And what I found certainly made up my mind that I'd made a good deal.  Diamondback is a Florida based company that has been in business about 5 years now.  Their .380 had a couple "issues" when they first came out, but one thing that really struck a nerve with me is that everyone that did have problems said that they sent the gun back and Diamondback did everything possible to correct the problem and made good on the gun.

I see now where more and more cops are carrying the DB9 as their backup gun, which makes more sense than carrying a .32 or a .380.

Didn't know about this maker when I was looking. I ended up with a Kahr p45, which is a compact .45 and really like it as I have smaller hands.  I was looking at the S&W MP but their stakced handle design made the handle too large for my hands.  The price was also better than the S&W.

For carrying, I really like a crotch holster, I think made by Thunderwear.  It works great with shorts or any other pants and easy to conceal.  I don't like carrying the spare mag int he second pocket so I carry that in another pocket.  I also started carrying wearing cargo pants/shorts and the gun easily slips in the cargo pockets with the spare clip in the other.

little friend…

My friend JD and I went to a gunshow in Jackson, TN yesterday.  It's been on my mind for a while to get my concealed carry permit and once I did that, I'd need a gun that was a little more "concealed friendly" than my current selection of handguns.

So I've been cruising various gun websites, reading reviews on various handguns in .380, 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.  I really liked the idea of carrying something that started with a .4, but looking at the various offerings, decided that anything in 40 caliber was either too big or too expensive.

I didn't want a .32 or a .380 just because I think that they don't offer the stopping power that I think would be required in an emergency.  So that left 9mm.  Still not the ideal choice, but looking at the different guns, what I was looking for was offered in 9mm caliber.  Comparing size and price, I decided that the Ruger LC9 was going to be my handgun.

So anyway, we get to the gun show and I start looking at different guns.  Glocks were out (too expensive), I didn't want a revolver (too big), and I was stunned to find that the Ruger LC9, which was just right, was priced $20 over what I could buy one for locally at a sporting goods store!

At this point, I was fairly disgusted, but I decided to see if I could weasel the price down on a Ruger.  I tried this tactic with two different vendors without success, they both said the same thing.  "These guns are selling so well that we don't have to discount them to sell them."  Thinking I was just going to have to wait and buy one locally, I found one more seller of handguns.  As we were discussing the Ruger, I told him about me being left-handed and I needed something that was going to work well for ME!

At this point, he brought out a Diamondback 9mm.  Slightly smaller than the Ruger, it fit my hand well, and fits in the back pocket of my jeans making a bulge no more than a wallet!  He told me that Diamondback is a fairly new company, but they had been making tremendous strides in their guns and he had no returns on the ones he'd sold, that everyone was happy with their purchase.

So, after some give and take in negotiations, we arrived at a price, including sales tax and background check fees.  Once this was out of the way, I gave him my money and left with a new pocket pistol!

I think I'm gonna love it!
