LOL, you're right, this post has kind of "drifted" as posts usually do.  But I'm not going to be a "Post Nazi" and move it.

However, I would like it if we could open up a discussion on retrieve types for different lure types and what's worked great for different members.

So if you do want to start another post, that'd be great!

Just please remember to make the title search engine friendly, ok?  Wink

LM's not gonna show me allllll his spots. Well what kinna deal is that… I though we wuz bestest friends! LOL….

But I do understand.

This is kinna out of context and I would get "MOVE IT TO ANOTHER FORUM" message… it does kinna fit into the flow of this post…

Back in 1998 I was fishing an internet rally – Rally@Lake Fork with a retired judge. Well… I had the front of his boat, at his request, and we were fishing topwater chuggers in an area I had located a few days prior. I was catching fish on about every other cast while the Judge was… shall we say – struggling. Finally he asked me "What are you doing that I am not?" And even though he could clearly see "what" I was doing the very subtle difference seemed to make a difference. Anyway… I told him "most" of what I was doing in great detail. After I finished telling him "most" of it he responded: "Doug, I spent 30 years on the bench. In those thirty years, if I learned anything I learned this. No one tells every thing they know!" Boy did he peg me that day! It was Jerk-jerk-pause – and they slammed it on the pause. If you "jerked, jerked, "jerked" then paused they didn't want it! I told him I was: jerking and pausing but not the sequence required to get the bite!

LilMule and I will certainly help you as much as we can, but seeing's how LM fishes ABA, I don't think he'll be showing you all his spots!

It is interesting fishing with someone else too. I love to see how others approach a lake that I'm (in this case only somewhat) familiar with.

While I'm a fair fisherman, I'm always willing to learn from others.

Thefts aren't "usually" a problem here. But…. On Sam Rayburn here in Texas at the Jackson Hill Marina we had an ABA 'T'… I couldn't make that one. But the theives hit everyone that did. Cleaned them out too! DNR guys said special locking bars don't slow'em down much at all as they just take the winch strap, hook it to the locking bars and pull'em off. That particular marina has a know issue with this and because of that I won't go there – ever.

LM – I do plan on fishing the National's there this year and have plans to visit when it gets closer to the practice cut off date. When the time comes I'll let you and Steve know and maybe we can get together n' sore mouth a bunch of fish!

That really is good thinking Doug.  Far too often people will "cheap out" on their insurance, not thinking of the thousands of dollars worth of gear that's in the boat.

Heck, just replacing one Plano 3700 box filled with crankbaits could be a huge bill!  Surprised

This is all true as we extend our inventory one should also extend the insurance coverage if applicable.

In my own case I insure only the other person if in an accident,I have to pay for any stupidity on my own part.

As for thefts they dont occur everywhere just some places,Lake Murry sc has one place a ramp where hundreds of boats are beached all with tackle openly displayed in them ,no one bothers any of it.

Same here at Paris Landing, one must inform the park rangers of a boat sitting overnight, but it can sit a week without anyone touching it or its contents.

If your still considering fishing the nationals here I would suggest a trip up sooner than then to gain more knowledge  somewhat, with the water and tackle used.

…speaking of tackle boxes.

I haven't made any wholesale additions to mine in close to 10 years! Due in part to not fishing for about 3-4 of those years and the fact that I had a ton of stuff – ok maybe several tons – and what I had worked for me. But… getting back into tournament fishing a couple of years ago eventually took a toll on the o'l inventory. Soooo…

Started making a list of crankbaits, jerkbaits, frogs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and topwater stick baits.(Plastics were kept up to date). Along with the new baits well of course I "needed" a few more rods and a few more reels. It was surprising to see how quickly I approached the 3,000.00 dollar mark. And that only includes 3 – LuckyCraft Stay See 90's and the remainder being mainline baits like DD-22's n' such. Granted anything I ordered I ordered 3 of, 'cept for rods n' reels, so that kinna upped the antie.

Considering what I already had in the boat along with the new stuff being added it didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that my current insurance would not cover what needed covering. So, time for an upgrade there as well.

The sport of fishing has gotten a bit more costly since the 90's and if you haven't considered upping the coverage on your tackle – you may want to at least take a look at it. If you over-night for a tournament and someone steals all'a your stuff will your coverage pay for your loss? That's the question that needs to be answered. In my case the answer was a resounding NO!
