What's the difference in size?  Oh, about 500….  Wink

Usually, there is a slight difference in the reel body size, with the larger reels having the larger model designation.  Line capacity increases as well.

If Daiwa's reel size numbers relate to similarly sized reels in Shimano's line-up, you won't need anything larger than a 2500 series reel for 90% of your freshwater needs.  It's only when you start fishing for the larger trout and salmonids that you should think about a 3000 series reel for the line capacity.

The most important thing to remember is how the reel balances on the rod you've chosen and that's why you really should take the reel and put it on either your rod or a rod of the same make/model while in the store.  If you know it balances the rod, then you've got the right reel.

Make sense?

I am presently looking at a Diawa Tierras 2000 spinning reel. I have noticed that the sizes vary, for example:

2000 Series

2500 Seriess

3000 Series

What is the difference between series size? Is it the size of the spool only, and the reels are the same size?
