It's an ability that I've always admired, but never could do on my own; I just don't have a steady enough hand. Luckily my friend J.D. Hart has the "right stuff" and has been pinstriping for over 40 years.
Recently, he had some free time and asked me why I didn't have my truck striped. I told him that until now, I never knew a pinstriper. So he suggested that I wash the truck and bring it by the shop.
He painted on two side stripes, fire red and light gray, matching the colors of the 4×4 lettering from the factory.

Then, he did this…

It's really cool watching J.D. work. For my tailgate, the only measurement made was when he found the centerline of the tailgate. After that, everything just kind of flowed out of J.D.'s head, through the brush and onto the tailgate. I've watched him pinstripe probably two dozen cars, trucks and motorcycles since we met. He's never certain what the design is going to look like, but he knows when to stop and no two are ever alike, kind of like snowflakes…
All I know is that I love how it jazzes up the truck a little bit!
