Yesterday was Janet's birthday and she wanted to do something as long as she had the day off. She wanted to go to Jackson, a nearby town we haven't really explored a whole lot. It was a cruddy day weather-wise, but what the heck? We jumped in the car and away we went.
We hit Jackson and found the closest Waffle House for a brunch so Janet could get her hash brown fix. Right around the corner from the Waffle House was an Outdoor World, so we checked that out as long as we were there. It's a nice sporting goods store, kind of like "Bass Pro Lite." She found a nice hooded sweatshirt that she wanted, but I couldn't find anything that I liked, so we took off to see what else Jackson had to offer.
So we wandered through an outlet store, a book store, and a Bed-Bath & Beyond, where we ended up spending some more money. I had heard that Jackson had a Gander Mountain, so I looked it up on my phone, got the address and away we went. Their fishing selection wasn't as good as the Paducah store, but their gun department is excellent! They had several things there I wouldn't have minded bringing home, but I figured it was Janet's birthday, I probably shouldn't be buying things. Then Janet had a thought… She wondered if they had electric meat grinders?
Well, it turned out they did carry grinders, and they even had one on sale for $96, so I ended up bringing it home with me.
Today, I ground up about 30 pounds of venison burger. Half was mixed with regular bacon for a little added flavor as well as acting like a binding agent for grilling to hold the meat together. The other half I mixed with pepper bacon. These Janet made into meat balls, then she baked them and froze them for future use.
So, I'd have to say that it was a pretty good trip to Jackson…
