The wildlife is west Tn is quite pentiful and diverse.
I see many deer and turkey, bald eagles and osprey, and like all places they have their tales of cougars or panters. This however is from a blog on cougars and its very close to home.
I was driving along Hwy. 218 around Paris about 6:00 p.m. on an August evening in 1998; the sun was still quite high. I had slowed to cross the railroad tracks between Hwy. 77 and Hwy. 79. Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement in the weeds on the side of the road; I immediately thought ofthe possibility of a deer crossing my path and did not increase my speed. Suddenly, a big cat became visible and crossed the road about 30 feet in front of my car. He was a chestnut brown color, and the sun made his coat shine. I would estimate his body to be around 3 feet long and his tail slightly shorter. He did not seem to be aware of my presence. He crossed the road at what I would call a slow, easy lope. My heart was beating at the sight and I remember noting that it had a long tail and round ears because I wanted to be sure about what I was seeing. I will probably never see another, but I feel lucky to have witnessed such a beautiful creature.
Local gossip has it living in a hollow inbetween Paris and Paris Landing,I would love to get a snap shot of it or the critter that rubbed dark brownish fur off on one of my trees about three ft off the ground.I have seen wild black bears coming from w.va but generally not around much inhabited areas. Here the homes are within sight of one another yet wildlife is quite evident.
Must be all the parks and wildlife areas.
