Hmm thats normal same back in wva they didnt exist except in peoples minds or escaped pets.

The dark colored fur was very dense, and higher than what I think a goat would place it at,prior owner here however did have goats, but they and their evidence are long gone.

Altough I still get junk mail addressed to them, and possibly the goats.

Before anyone comments on animals getting mail,my dogs and cats all do,sent by the vet as a reminder for shots etc,and yes the us mail delivers them.

After awhile they get attached to mailing lists, and they get junk mail as well.

Way back in the mid-80's there were signs that cougars were in the area, yet the Wisconsin DNR refused to even consider they might exist in the state.  Even after numerous, documented reports, the DNR simply wrote them off as "someone's pet" that had gotten loose or had been released.

However, now that the DNR's own "experts" have photographed a cougar, the admit there might be a small residential population.

Now your dark fur rubbed on a tree?  It might be a bear, it could be someone's dark coated goat…  Wink

The wildlife is west Tn is quite pentiful and diverse.

I see many deer and turkey, bald eagles and osprey, and like all places they have their tales of cougars or panters. This however is from a blog on cougars and its very close to home.

I was driving along Hwy. 218 around Paris about 6:00 p.m. on an August evening in 1998; the sun was still quite high. I had slowed to cross the railroad tracks between Hwy. 77 and Hwy. 79. Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement in the weeds on the side of the road; I immediately thought ofthe possibility of a deer crossing my path and did not increase my speed. Suddenly, a big cat became visible and crossed the road about 30 feet in front of my car. He was a chestnut brown color, and the sun made his coat shine. I would estimate his body to be around 3 feet long and his tail slightly shorter. He did not seem to be aware of my presence. He crossed the road at what I would call a slow, easy lope. My heart was beating at the sight and I remember noting that it had a long tail and round ears because I wanted to be sure about what I was seeing. I will probably never see another, but I feel lucky to have witnessed such a beautiful creature.

Local gossip has it living in a hollow inbetween Paris and Paris Landing,I would love to get a snap shot of it or the critter that rubbed dark brownish fur off on one of my trees about three ft off the ground.I have seen wild black bears coming from w.va but generally not around much inhabited areas. Here the homes are within sight of one another yet wildlife is quite evident.

Must be all the parks and wildlife areas.
