Ahh, no worries.  I finally got the other quote and it was "only" $1,400 higher for the exact same unit.  So we're going to go with Indoor Comfort (the less expensive shop) and they have one in stock, so thought the unit could be installed next week.  And even if they can't install it next week, they said they'd recharge the unit as many times as needed until we have the new unit installed.

So with that promise, plus a tax credit, plus $1,400 cheaper, plus a 10 year parts AND labor warranty, I think we'll be fine.

But thanks for the offer.  Cool

You know of course if yours fails prior you can always stay here for a bit.

Noisy, hairy, but a bit cooler than a home without an ac ,im using window units but house is normally around 78.

The only estimate we have so far is for a 100% American made heat pump, which is a good thing!  So hopefully we'll have the other estimate by noon tomorrow and I can then figure out which we'll go with and almost as important, WHEN it can be installed…

Yeah when I had a service call same company gave me a 6k estimate told them they estimated themselves out of a job.

Thats not a bad quote, what brand of heat pump amanha, rhudd, something made in the usa not china.Make sure you ask,and thats a decent seer rating for even this day and age, although they do go higher.

Yeah, that's what we're doing, running the new unit through the utility company.  Their interest rates are certainly reasonable enough and the federal government has a rebate, which for us should be about $1,400.00, so we might as well just do it.

We're looking at replacing our -5 SEER rated heat pump with a 14 SEER unit, so I think we'll be surprised at our next month utility bill.  I thought our bills were reasonable enough with the older, less efficient unit, so we'll be styling with the new unit.

We've had one quote of $4,900.00 for a turn-key system, and I'm waiting to hear from the other company that did come out.  We originally called three places, but only two of them could be "bothered" to return the call.  I just don't get it, are some companies doing that well that they can afford to turn away new business????  Surprised

yes power company will normally put one in and add to the bill.

I used to do heating and air,not a big job since you have one installed,no new wiring as can run off old and uses same ductwork, merely place an airhandler in line with duct work where the old one was and put the unit on the pad where the old one was connect the lines and wire up they are precharged.Hardest part is taking old one out r22 must be recapured and i have no pump anymore ,obiously some have leaks and are vented so one can cut those as already gone.

3 ton depends upon sear rating get a high one like a 14,wholesale is 2-3 k ,then they mark up,if less sear rating a lot cheaper but more costly to run 9 or 10 sear is about 1800 complete with one heat strip

if you run into a glitch we could replace it in a couple of hrs,is it in the crawl space at teh north end as kind of close to the ground on the south

It's still working, but it's limping along.  We just had the second heat/air company in, now it's just waiting for the pricing information so I'll know how broke I'll be….Surprised

Is you're A/C still working???? My experience is that if you have to add freon – it doesn't last very long. Got that new heat pump coming yet? It might get warm in October and…. well… you know!

Yeah, after a $300 service call, we once again have AC, hopefully until someone can get out here and replace the unit.  That's the plan for today, calling and getting estimates on how much a new heat pump will cost us, AND when it can be installed…

I know there are people living without AC down here, but I can't do it.  I don't mind getting hot and sweaty, but I DO MIND not being able to breathe when the temp and humidity get to current levels.  Attempting to walk around, while gasping for air like a beached carp gets real old, real quick!

Well that suks! Even though you have to replace the unit… do you have A/C now? I can't imagine working all day then coming home to a screeeeming hot house. That said… I was born in Corpus Christi, south Texas, the first 12 years of my life I didn't even know A/C existed in a house. I suppose you just get used to it. But then you get used to A/C too!

Yeah, and today my central air decided to puke!!!  Soooo, almost $300 later, after a service call to recharge the freon in the unit, we found that we will HAVE to replace our heat pump.

Tomorrow we begin the search for a new heat/air unit.  I've been told that the local utility company offers heating/cooling units and just adds the cost to the monthly bill.  We'll find out!Yell

Basically the oddest thing is water temp 3 meters beow the surface is tha same as the surface, and speaking of hot while it has never done this prior to me today its going to be 100 and tomorrow 101 with heat index of 114 and 115 respectively, lack of rain and now my cucmbers are dying.

Normally mid aug it starts getting a tad cooler like low 90sthen 80 s by sept,by oct one needs a jacket in the morning but can chuck aftr the sun is well up.So it wont be long.

Meanwhile stay in stay in ,and you can kep your 115 down there whats that with the heat index over 120?

Actually the highest the heat index goes is 137 and that's with humidity at 55%. 55% relative humidity is the highest the chart goes with an air temp of 104. Soooo… I'd say the relative heat was somewhere between 130 and 140. A bit on the warmish side!
