You're exactly right Doug, iBoats violated YOUR trust by failing to honor the low price guarantee.  It doesn't matter whether it's $1.27 or $1,027.00!  If they're going to say "We'll meet or beat any price," then that's what they need to do.  NOT offer excuses…

Oh well, live and learn I guess…

Yeah…. and then they deleted the post to top it all off. If I had been lying I could understand them deleting it. If I had embellished the actually events I could understand them deleting the post. But to me deleting it was simply an act trying to cover the facts they don't want known. One guy had responded to the post before it was deleted. He rambled some about how it was near impossible to match distressed companies prices. He did agree that the should have matched the price because they said they would but his last comment was: "I doubt I'd bother much with $1.27 with a company once they've earned my trust." The way I saw it was I trusted they'd meet that price and they didn't so – there went the trust. I'm not much in favor of the low price guarantee anyway and that was the first time I even bothered with it. Guess it's the last time too.

That really blows that iBoats.com has dropped the ball on customer service.  It sounds to me like they've gotten too big and the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing!

Although that seems the be the business model for many companies today, as witnessed by my run-in with Optima Batteries.  It'll be a cold day in hell when I ever consider spending over $200 per battery as I did when I bought three Optimas.

When these last two die, I seriously doubt you'll ever see another Optima in my boat, car, truck or garden tractor!  "Gee, I'm sorry, you have to have a receipt and take it back where you bought it."  "Oh, the place you bought it went out of business and you don't have your receipt, and you don't want to drive 14 hours to return it even if you could?"  "Gee, that's too bad…."  Yell

I posted this on the forum at iboats after the experience it details….

Don't know if this is the place to post this or not but none of the other forums seems appropriate either.

I've been doing business with iboats for about 3 years. Loved their service and timely shipping. And normally great customer service. But…

Today I'm trying to order a Navionics Hotmaps Lake Explorer DVD. Two of them are listed on the site even though Fugawi Co. only produces one. In any event… One was listed at 20.07 and the other was listed at 15.05.

Soooo…. I place a call to Sales.

I explain the problem I'm having in that there are two different prices for the same thing – though they both have different model numbers. So after minutes of silence on the other end I'm told "They're both the same thing – in different warehouses." Yeah…. well… there's 5 bucks difference in price! "Well, the 15.05 is the right price!" Great I respond – except I've found it for less on another web site… "Where's that web site?" The voice on the other end queries. "Defender.com" is my response…. minutes of silence then "I see they have it for 12.00." "Yes" I reply. "Well… we can't sell it for that!" the voice on the other end delares. "You can't????" "No, my managers have told me we can't sell anything at a loss. I'm not sure how defender is selling it so cheap. It cost us more to buy it than that. So the lowest I can go is $13.27." "What about the LOW price GUARANTEE?" "Sorry – can sell it for $12.00. Is that all I can help you with?" "Yes, tell me about shipping charges"

I'm seeing charges for one of the identical items is going to cost me 7.80 for USPS coming from one warehouse and the very same item is 3.20 for USPS First Class coming from the other warehouse. After double checking I see that First Class USPS shipping is not even an option at warehouse #1. Why is that?"

The response: "I don't know – is that all i can help you with today?" Yup… headed to defender.com to place multiple orders.

To this point in time I have purchased from iboats:

Motorguide ProDigital 24v ProDigital Trolling Motor $845.00
ProMariner – ProTournament 300 battery charger $326.52
Another MotorGuide ProDigital 24v ProDigital Trolling motor $911.50
4 – spring lift ni-slide gas springs $65.15
Voltage Regulator $113.13
Replacement skeg $31.08
Navionics HotMaps – East $114.10

Total: $2,306.48

I'm betting this li'l incident will, in the end, cost iboat way more than the $1.27 difference that cost them this sale and who knows how many more from myself and others I influence.

I'm really disappointed in the outcome of this transaction. I've told many friends about iboats and now, it seems, I'll have to tell'em of this experience as well. This may seem a tad extreme to some but I'm the type that if I say I'll do something – I do it… even if it cost me. Why? Because I said I would. Now if there were "conditions" associated with iboats low price claim I would understand completely – but there is not.
