LOL, what didn't make the show (or even on videotape) is the fact that in between the time I landed that big peacock and when I released her, she shook and drove one hook deep into the meat of my thumb!
So there I was, peacock bass on one end of the lure, the other end firmly planted in me! Of course the bass was unhooked first and placed in the livewell, then I took my mighty Gerber tool and ripped the hook from my thumb.
Once the cursing died, the bass was retrieved from the livewell, the camera turned back on and we continued filming what you saw on the show….
The boat ride scared the snot out of me! Chunky was indeed a wild man and all I could think was what was going to happen if a boat would be coming the opposite way. I'd get to see it all happen and the poor cameraman wouldn't have known what hit him. He was sitting on the edge of the deck, facing backwards.
The gators didn't really bother me in the least. In fact, my daughter was the production assistant for this shoot and hooked a gator on spinning tackle while fishing during a filming break! She did fight it to the surface several times before breaking it off. Gators and I have an understanding; we can play together for a little while, but that's the extent of our interaction….
