I'm looking forward to meeting up with you too Doug.  That's one thing I really feel I need improvement on, deep water fishing.   I can do it, but I don't feel really comfortable with it.  Deep water opportunities were available in Wisconsin, but I was always able to find good fish in 12 feet of water or less, so I never felt the need to hone those skills.

Good to hear there may be a suplus of non-boaters. At Pickwick it was top heavy with boaters. I used my boat on day 1 then fished as non-boater the next two days. On both days I could'a pushed the issue and probably used my boat but it was in bad shape and wouldn't have been fair to the non-boater if they were on fish on the other end of the lake.

I went to Pickwick with 4 others out of my district. They were all Texas only(more or less) fishermen and they struggled with both the river system lake and the depth. I lived in Georgia for about 15 years and fished Lanier a lot(lived on the lake)  so I had some "depth" experience and fished Eufaula in Alabama a lot and if there ever was a river/lake that one is!

Looking forward to fishing KYL and meeting you n' Steve!

Aug 7th and 8th will be div 32 2 day event, div 40 has its in june and will start early birds and run up to the cutoff date, which wont be a long off limits, figgure 10 days to 14 .

Most likly not to many 5 lbers will come in as a nonboater but all kinds of those 1.5 to 2.0 fish with most not measureing as its 15 in here across the board.

Ledge bite can be good but grass bite and point bite at that same time here as you were on pickwick was awsome.best bite regadless of what on had schoolers nearby busting, and some of the largest schoolers ive ever seen doing it,exceeding 5pds avg yet wouldnt stay hooked up worth a darn.Sometimes turn the water white yet not bite anything,if they did swiped at it,took awhile to figgure out not to reel back in but to let it sink to the bottom then hold on,as the orient express was taking off.

Steve and I fished a tournament where we caught at least 3 or even 4 limits yet couldnt use most of what we caught after 11 am as needed 2lbs 13 oz to cull our smallest.

We actually had 17 lbs .45,had two dead fish and with a 1 lb penalty it gave us 16.45 and 5th place, winner had but 17.05.Thats how close it is here.

By the way ABA is also raising the dead fish penalty to the same 1/2 pd each.

There will be a surplus of nonboaters as many with gas prices and length of trip combined with the roughest water this side of lake erie wont haul one here.

About 5 or 6 shouldnt but do like a 16 fter or a tracker w 25 hp,part of that its my ride I wanna run it syndrome.

Ky lake is best suited for 20 ft and over.

Thanks LM… I just checked the ABA web site and they don't have the dates listed for the Nationals yet so I don't know when the off limits kick in but I'll probably come just prior to the lake going off limits. C'rigging a brush hog/baby brush hog and 10″ worms is one of my go-to methods and I'll no doubt utilize it on KYL. This year on Pickwick it was pretty tough but managed a top 25(23rd) standing pitching a jig on the first day, working ledges/humps w/crank baits and c'rig the second day and shallow grass with a fluke on the 3rd day. Most anything would get fish it was the good'uns that were hard to come by. On the last day with the fluke I could'a culled 3 limits but they were all in the 1.5-2.0 pound range but my biggest fish, around 4#'s came on a c'rig brush hog. On day one and two 5 keepers is all I caught.

Since only one I know in that is here,is dougw, guess its for him.

Only two small motels but several resorts actually next to paris landing along with the state park ,hotel, restraunt.

So after fishing a two and qualifying best book a rooom unless you desire to stay in paris 25 min away.

Also wouild pay to come here in aug to get  acquainted with the water and the different bites available.

I suggested that month as sometimes the grass is not topped prior, sometimes it is from 2nd week of july, last year it wasnt.

Somewhat your fishing will depend upon who you draw,as some will ledge fish(good for 12 1/2 -14pds a day without current),really a misnomer here as most are fishing the hump or point not the dropoff. Some will merely cruise the bank and eek out 1 keeper or two a day, along with countless 13 in-14 fish.

Then theres the grass bite,if available(it willl be if you know where to look) frogs, flukes worms, good for 12 1/2 to 17 1/2 pds a day

Rubber greenpumkin-bushog is king-worms same color and purple and blue combos, even xmas tree in a senko.

Crankbaits-normally the rattletrap is great from aug on wasnt this year, plan on using more or less single hooks if you want keepers.possibly you will find a niche of your own or a bait that works while here not mentioned, thus another reason to come and fish this place.
