I think its a personal preference, depending upon what type of water one fishes and style of fishing.

I had a long shaft and had to place it on another boat which is smaller,it still comes out of the water when rough out on Ky lake, just less so.

As a result of me being a shallow fisherman it limits my sidearm casts, but it was a tradeoff either buy a new one 70pd thrust 24 v or use what I had, they arnt cheap.

So am using the longer shaft one due to not having an extra 800 dollars laying around, and again other than sidearm casts its not limiting me and does better preform in 2 1/2 -3 fters somewhat.

Well, obviously you want the motor to be able to reach well into the water, and based on the size of your boat (if I'm picturing it right), either will work fine.  Here's my thoughts

If you buy the 54″ shaft model, and you fish a lot of shallow water, you'll have to raise up the shaft so the prop doesn't hit bottom.  That puts the head of the motor up higher in the air and you might whack it from time to time when you cast, especially sidearm.  But on a day when the waves are rough, you can drop the motor down deeper in the water than the 45″ shaft and the prop won't blow out of the water when the bow climbs a wave, so you'll have better boat control.

So I guess the ball's back in your court.  Do you fish calm, shallow water more or out on the lake where the wind and waves will get at you?

And which motor do you like better?

I fish in all types of water. Creeks, Rivers and lakes. Both motors are very nice. I don't know if one or the other is built tougher. The brace for the PPV2 and Terrova that sit on the boat are smaller then the Edge model which is fine by me.

I came a across a year end sales at Gander Mtn. For the same price I can get either a Minn Kota Power Pro V2 or a Terrova. Both are 55lbs, 12v with is good for my size boat. One big difference that I am getting hung up on is that the PPV2 has a 48″ shaft and the Terrova has a 54″ shaft. Is this major? Or it doesn't matter?
