I have thrown the smaller hotlips that dives to 16 ft on claims,I got it to 12-13 on ten pd test, and it wasnt near as bad as a dd22,this lake is known for them being a good bait so practice a lot, pump iron on the side.
I plan in being in 3 ft of water or less at that time the nationals are going on.But a long time off who knows.
Those small (micro) guides look weird.Hope you dont catch micro fish with them.
The wrap however looks good, and if it what you want and or like then who cares what they look like to others.

While I can toss one just cant stand using one feels like one has a 12 in fish on all day long, when retrieving.
LOL… funny story… At Nationals this year… day two…. I'm with vetern ledge cranker. Talked to him the night before and he said 3/4oz. hotlips… So I got some… they make a DD22's feel like a rat-l-trap! Anyway…. We're working a ledge and outta no where this LMB makes a jump with a crankbait between it's lips…. funny… that crankbait looks just like mine… HEY it is….Hook-set, land non-keep'r and release it… Boat'er ask "Did you know that fish was on your bait? And as honestly as I could answer him I said - "Nope, not a clue!" After a while it got easier to detect non-keepers on that bait – it got easier to cank with a fish on!
I don't have trouble slingin' DD22's. Currently using an O'l browning David Fritt's special… Heavy but I virtually never have a fish chunk a crankbait with that rod.

The dd 22 does not lend itself to casting real long distances due to its shape, something like a gsplash one can toss a lot farther due its shape as well, more aerodynamic.
You will have a real good rod to toss the dd22 40 yards, same rod can toss that gsplash over 50.But when you get it built want to see what you can do with it.

Ahh, you're a single guy Doug, what else do you have to spend your money on? It would rock having a rod that light. It's only $350 beans.
LOL… yeah… right! Blank, guides, grips, reel seat came to 200.00. What's a'nudder 368.00. I will say this… when I finish I should be able to cast a 5/8oz. DD22 a country mile!

Here's a tickler fer ya'…. I started fishing left handed years ago as I saw it having more benefits compared to the conventional hand swap for right handers…. Well… that MudHole stick built is going to come in weighing about 3.5oz. sooo… started looking for L.H. slow speed reels. Shimano doesn't even offer a L.H. anything below 6.2 presently - after I got down to Citica's I quit looking. Diawa's Crazy cranker 4.9:1 weighs 9.5 and cost around 270.00. Abu Garcia's "Winch" is 200.00 and weighs over 10ozs. And that is all there is…. until ya' go to Japan… Now you're talking… Shimano Aldebaran Mg… 5.8:1 retrieve weighs…. 5.4oz. Can you imagine a 8' crankin' stick coming in under 10ozs???? Guess what the draw back is??? Yup…. 350.00 plus 18.00 shipping…

Yup, them's some little puppies for sure. 4 wraps and you're done! LOL… a few more than that but not many!
Thanks Steve on the wrap comment. I've re-done 3 old rods(all micros but 4's instead of 3.5's) and test wrapped countless guides trying to find a combination of colors I liked. The one I posted is the one I'll probably go with though that particular wrap was also a test/practice and has since been cut off.
On the rack right now is a new MudHole cb965Blend… 8' foot crankin' stick the blend is two different graphites and not a glass blend. It's supposed to be a medium/fast action with a medium power rating – a 5 I think. But the blank alone feels a bit stouter than that and a bit more than I really wanted. I'm puttin' split-grips on it just for the hailbut and will probably marble the space between the grips.
On my new rod line up is, of course, the frog rod. Then a very light jig rod but with Ummmp.
