Oh, it's going.  It's been so bloody hot here this summer that it isn't even fun to go fishing.  When the sweat is pouring down your face and back out on the lake by 10:00 in the morning, it's just too darned HOT!  But otherwise, life is good.

In answer to your post, some people do fish for carp here in the states, but not nearly enough and I don't know why not!  Carp grow to enormous proportions and they're just about everywhere in the country.  And even though people don't eat them, that's not a reason not to fish for them because most people don't eat bass and muskie.

I would think that with the level of European carp angling, if people were to use those same methods here, they'd be hip deep in carp before they knew it.  Our fish haven't gotten anywhere close to the same pressure that the European fish have…

Hi Steve.

Not been on here for a while, How's it going?

I used to fish for carp regularly over 20 years back, there aren't that many carp waters in my area. As you may know over here in GB carp fishing is big business, which seems to exist in it's own world with a cult following and a whole industry which has grown around it with specialist baits of various recipies alone, never mind all the bits and pieces of specialised Hi tech tackle and electronic bite detection systems which have become associated with it. Much of this has become necessary on many places to fool wary fish which have been caught often. Some of the bigger and more easily identified fish caught in the lakes are even given  names almost like a pet. Strange !I like a simpler approach.

Carp are a good fighting fish and grow big and you certainly know when you have one on the end of the line.

I think my question is fairly straightforward, has anyone ever fished for carp, or still do it?

The reason I ask is when I was a kid, I used to fish for carp all the time on the Rock River back in Wisconsin.

It taught me many things, the importance of a good drag, how to fight a big fish on light tackle, and I even made some money doing this.  People would come out from Milwaukee and pay me 25 cents a pound for fresh carp!

I don't know what made me think of this today, but I got to reminiscing and thought about all the carp I've caught in years past.Laugh
