Whenevr you change props that fuel usage will change as some have more slip than others and take more gas to run.

Yeah the most benefit I see from mine is the instantanious reading. Fuel used is dead on accurate the variable is the miles traveled. When my speedo was working it was actually real close to the GPS reading. Now that I have the pick-up hole unplugged I can see where mine gets the best mileage. Once I have that information in hand I won't really need to use that feature.

About as usefull as a normal speedo picktup tube then, just more accurate when it working,my gps does a fair job telling time to hole and speed, avg speed etc.to so an so divide distance into gal left gives one the average, and mines known best speed and gas milage was advertised on the omc site.

If I had a stock motor mine would get mpg at 43 mph, hair over 5mpg

Since its on steroids not quite so,gets over 4 at 60ish,just under 3.0 at 70ish,but in other boats at wot could visually see the gas guage go down not in the ally, and they had stock motas.

its cabable of running 42 each way with full load 65ish,70mph-70miles gets expedential as the foot goes down-24 gal of gas

I think though when I actually try the 82 ill have a can onboard just in case

Your talking about altering the stats so it gives false reports or readings?

So whats the point in  extra $ smart craft giuages if one alters them so they aint so smart?

You can use Pitot tube, paddle wheel or GPS for input on the SmartCraft speedometer. You can change the "factor" to fine tune the speedometer for accuracy or false readings if you will. But the reason for the ability to alter the results is to gain accuracy. The gauges also display "fuel used" which is taken directly from the engine and has been described as "Natt's ass accurate". I was trying to get the speedo to agree with the GPS(mine has an internal antenna and can't be used to connect to the SmartCraft gauge set – gotta be an external antenna). Where it makes a difference is "Trip Distance" and either the "Instantanious" fuel mileage or the "Average" fuel mileage information displayed. By default the speedo was pretty stinkin' accurate but then I started diddlin' with it and got ev'a thing all screwed up. Did a master reset when I got home 'cause I couldn't figure out how to undo all tha' things I dun did! In part I thought I screwed it up so bad it, the speedo, was no longer working at all but in reality the pick-up hole in the lower unit had gotten plugged up.

Welllll… I wuz gonna post a picture of my boat in the water but… When I plugged the card into the pc I was greeted with a really nice picture of the parking lot and another on that was so blurry only the owner could recognize it as a boat, much less his boat.

While I was on the lake I got to diddlin' with the smartcraft guage set up…. In the speed set up it is possible to change the "factor"(whatever that is) as a means of calibrating the accuracy of the speedometer. Welllll… I changed the factor from 1.0 to 1.11 and wa'la at 70mph I'm now getting 22mpg! I'm gonna bump that factor thingee up somemore and best I can tell I'll be making fuel pretty soon!
