I'd still check it over carefully.

I change the lower unit lube every fall and my outboard has never once leaked.  I take any stain or puddle seriously.

He was running it on ears just prior to the photo, will be started and run in place on ears and shifted etc.Power tilt n trim, had a 135 years ago just ike it,59 mph on a light phantom 17 1/2 boat 23 p mazco at 5500.Wish I still had that prop-13 spline low torque galore just no top end, also ran almost the same full load two people about 57-58.Allison wieghs a hare more than it but better hull, betting it will do 60 with a decent prop, lock stock but 89 octane.

As for any stain will check they also do the same thing if overfilled, and stops once correct level is aquirred.Send yours in to have it checked and topped ten to one for about 1 day after getting back it will also have a stain under it.(OMC)

Based on the stained spot of concrete underneath the lower unit, it looks like it's going to need prop shaft seals at the very least.  I'd go look at it if it isn't too far away, but I'd definitely take a good hard look at that motor before putting down any cash.  Will there be any way of test driving the motor prior to purchase?

well you prolly ain't gonna like this…. But I'm looking at that tired puppy and the first thought that enters my mind is a phrase I'm very familiar with "Thowing good money after bad"…

Hope it all works out the way you want it to though!

Looking at another mota this time omc,but quite old as an xflow, cost is right .providing it stops and starts and shifts, has skeg partly missing other than that not much is a 20 in equal to about 120 hp motor nowdays, just something to put put with until a better one can be afforded.

And may not get it someone might bid on it,I havnt as wanted to see the thing run and shift,so if noone puts in a bid will go take a look at it,if it does all he says its gone then.Nothing im putting money into run till it drops or is replaced, costing no more than what I spent on the rude

awaking to try keeping it going
