If it doesn't work after a hard reset, there's really not a whole lot of stuff you have left to do.  Here's to hoping that does the job.  Otherwise, like Lil Mule states, if you're careful, you'll do fine.

And he's right, next time come to Tennessee and stay in Paris.  A great landing with cheap places to stay and plenty of places to eat.

Often what works on one gps (map chip) wont work on another, his hotmaps wont work on my hummingbird gps.

If you go to your mfg webiste it will have what it will work on listed or backreferance from the chip mfg,it may not have the one listed ,yet the other one you mentioned like one letter differenace yet that can make a huge difference.

My hummingbirds a 778 ci and a 798sli both can use some maps or chips but not all in both, some others work in the 798 sli than do the 778 and vise versa they dont even share the same tranducer if one wants them as a fish finder as well

And different mfg use different formats, thus why so many can use only one version of hotmaps made just for that brand.

Welcome to the world of gps locators.

lake temp was 55 f ,under a front ,water had cleared fish on plaistics only or was it seems, senkos, lizards fairly shallow, timid bite just mushy.

But by end of the week in the mid sixties again, but even without a depth reading gps as long as you follow the suggested route ,pay att to actual depth and markers,be ok and good to go.

Next time come 1 hr father south, cheaper lodgings ,plenty of restraunts, and good company.Cool

Man,

I played with those settings for a long time, and its like it just does not see the card.  I went to the Lowrance site, and they have all kinds of software updates, so I went to download the update for my unit

AND OF COURSE, mine was one that shows no upgrade available.  I have the LCX-25CT, they list this unit kind of hand in hand with the LCX-25CI in most places, but when you go to the available updates, they have one for the CI, but not the CT.

Murphy's law.

I will keep playing.

I remember the days when all you needed to fish was two oars, some worms, and a cooler! No turning back now though….

I found a way to reset the whole unit on the Lowrance site, and they say that clears up a lot of issues.  I'll give that a try and see what happens.

I have an older Lowrance GlobalMap 3200 and it will occasionally change the settings.  I have a Fishing HotSpots SD card for Kentucky Lake and it'll from time to time not read the card.  So what I have to do is go into the menu settings and change the map overlay data to the card again.  Then I'm good to go once again.

You might check the menu settings and make sure of them…

I'm glad your outboard issues are hopefully resolved.  I know what it's like to have boat problems….

Hi Guys,

Got the boat back.  Mechanic swears its good to go.  I talked to him about the cracked oil cap and he wants me to give it one more try before we replace it.  Worst case scenario, all its doing is spitting oil out the reservere and making a mess inside the pan, but the engine is still oiling, so I am not doing any damage.

I feel better about the whole thing, but will still be watching it like a hawk.

Now I have another issue.  Any GPS experts at OF.com?  I have a Lowrance LCX-15CT with GPS.  I plugged her in this weekend and the weirdest thing.  It finds itself, "Position Found" message appears, but none of the map data shows up.  If I Zoom out far enough, I can see the state boundries, Great Lakes, all my waypoints, etc., but zoom in and nothing shows up by my trail and my current position.  No Lakes our Land.

I talked to a buddy who loves to play with his graph, and he could not figure it out either.

I guess as long as its keeping track of my trail, and my position thats all I really need for the weekend, but if anyone has any ideas let me know.

Once you posted the thing about the cracked oil reservoir tank cap, it made perfect sense that this too needs to be checked.  I know better having had oiling issues with a Merc 250XB that were solved with a new cap.

It wouldn't hurt to have that checked.

DOUG, THANKS FOR THE INFO.  I WILL TALK TO HIM ABOUT THAT THIS MORNING BEFORE I PICK IT UP.  DO YOU THINK THERE IS ANY DOCUMENTATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AVAILABLE ON THE WEB?

THAT EXPLANATION WOULD MAKE PERFECT SENSE.

THANKS GUYS,

I don't know that the problem is documented per engine manufactuer but has cropped up from time to time on various boating web sites… I don't know what kind of engine you have but the best I recall the cracked cap is most common on the Yamaha's from what I've seen.

A rather common problem has been a hairline crack in the reservori cap. It's almost impossible to detect but will create the condition you've described. Might want to have them replace the cap just to be on the safe side.

That'll be a lot of fun.  Here's hoping that you get some great fishing in on Friday/Saturday so you can regale us with all your stories!  We'll see you in Murray at the Applebees.

Let me know if there's anything else we can do to help, ok?

FINALLY DECIDED TO CALL SHOEDERS AND PETE  WASN'T SURE IF IT WAS DONE YET.  I ASKED HIM WTF WAS UP, BECAUSE TUESDAY HE TOLD ME IT WAS DONE.  APPARENTLY THE GUY WORKING ON IT TOOK SICK, SO THE WERE LEAVING THE BOAT IN THE SHOP UNTIL HE GOT BACK AND COULD TELL THEM WETHER HE WAS DONE.

THEN I GOT A MESSAGE ON THE MACHINE FROM THEM LATER THAT THE BOAT WAS ALL SET.

I AM GOING TO PICK IT UP TOMORROW.  I PLAN ON BRINGING MY VIDEO CAMERA ALONG ON THE KENTUCKY TRIP TO DOCUMENT THIS RE-OCCURING ISSUE, (THAT THEY CLAIM SIMPLY DOES NOT EXIST), AND BRING BACK SOME PROOF IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN.  I WISH THERE WAS SOME OPEN WATER UP HERE WHERE I COULD TAKE IT OUT FOR A TEST RIDE.

IN ANY CASE, I AM VERY HAPPY THAT WE WILL BE BRINGING MY BOAT!

SATURDAY NIGHT SOUNDS GOOD.  LETS JUST KIND OF PLAN ON IT.  WE ARE OPING TO GET IN A FEW GOOD HOURS ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, GET OUR BEARINGS ON THE LAKE, THEN HIT IT HARD SATURDAY.  I THINK WE WILL BE READY FOR A NICE DINNER BY SAT. NIGHT.

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!

Oh man, you still haven't heard back about your motor???  That's one thing that I don't like about that particular dealership, they're not interested in YOUR schedule!

I did talk to Janet and she thinks Saturday night would be just fine.  I'll give Lil Mule a shout and see what his plans are.

You're right about Kentucky Lake, it is an incredibly huge expanse of water.  But I think that you're doing right in sticking close to home base.  But don't worry, I'm sure you'll find all kinds of good fishing in that area, even without traveling far.

Kentucky Lake should be rocking pretty good for you and I think your timing will be about right.  There should be some bedding activity going on, with other fish getting ready to move up.

That map doesnt have but maybe 15-20 percent of ky lake on it its 186 miles long,as for laydowns not that many as its a draw down lake and the current pulls a lot out ,what is there is mostly in the bays or out of the water currentlyalso tva does not permit the cutting of trees by property owners over 4 in in width, what occurs happens naturally.

There are places to cross over a, fairly well marked, but you would be hard pressed to find much better than big bear, lil bear and the west bank with its drops and points, asd at the same time never having to deal with most hazards or waves.

Ps its 70 f here today. And 70 here feels warmer than say in ohio or wis.

Worked on my boat yesterday and today in a T shirt. And no wont stay that way 50 f front moving in  for a day or so then slowly back up.

Got the map in the mail yesterday, looks great.  I can't believe how big that frikin lake is.  It sure looks temping to cross over to that Land Between.  gotta be some nice laydowns and stuff around there hey?  But, I am in no position to swamp my boat, or wreck a lower unit, so I will stick around the lodge.  Looks like miles and miles of shoreline to fish right out the front door.

Applebees sounds great.  I talked to Beecher, my brother in law and he agreed.  If it works out and you want to make the trip, is there a particular evening that works best?  We are going to try to fish as much as possible, but I think late afternoonish we will probably be ready to head back, and might be waisting our time any later than that as far as the bite goes anyway.

Fri. Sat. or Sun would work.  Let me know if you have a preference.  If it doesn't work out and you are too busy thats O.K. too.

STILL have not gotten a call back from Shoeder's, and my boat appears to still be in the shop!  I am going to try and cut out early and go see what the hodag is going on over there.  If not tonight, tomorrow morning.  Now I am starting to worry.

5 days, 23 hours, 14 minutes until blastoff.

Cool

Yeah, we might be able to meet in Murray, Kentucky.  That's about middle for both of us and they have an Applebee's right on the main drag going through town.  I've got your phone number now and you have mine via PM.

Yes, I plan on adding oil to tHe gas until I am sure.  Funny tHing is, He called me and told me it was all set.  I asked Him if tHere was any way tHey could test tHe oil pump to be sure it was working.  He was reluctant, because He was sure everytHing was fine, (I could practically Hear Him rolling His eyes accross tHe pHone line….) but He gave in and said tHere was a way to test it and tHat tHey would go aHead and be sure.  I didn't Hear from Him after His first call around 10:00 am, and I drove by after work and could see my boat was still in tHe sHop.  So maybe I was rigHt after all!

We will see wHat tomorrow brings.

Steve, my cell went tHrougH tHe wasH macHine last fall, so I no longer Have your number.  I will PM you my new one, and sHoot me yours if you will.  I will at tHe least give you a ring wHile we are down soutH, and let you know How its going.  Maybe if tHings work out we can take you and Little Mule out for dinner?  I know tHats a long Haul, but Maybe we could meet somewHere in tHe middle.

If you're really uncomfortable with it – continue to double oil until you're convienced the oiling system is working like it's supposed to. 'Least then you wouldn't have to worry about terminal engine problems….

With the exception of grabbing my little buddy Gil and bringing him down Jim, I can't think of anything I left in Wisconsin!  :)

Well, if the mechanic has given you the all clear on the motor, bring it on down and hope for the best.  Now you do have to remember that when they're working properly, the newer engines don't really use a lot of oil.  They're metering oil out at something like 100:1 and that doesn't really go through a lot of oil

You should be fine, but you do have my cell phone number just in case, right?  :)

Well a lil care and some normal common sence and one doesnt worry about a prop an awfull lot I did when I first came here, first thing i did was go buy a gps showing depth contour,it is however even shallower down here.As long as you fish those bays and north and dont venture out in the main lake other than traveling north on the west channel near the west bank you wont have much to worry about.

Traveling south from there is a different matter the channel snakes and turns like a whirling dervish and the markers are sort of sprinked around the turns. You will see birds standing in places, those are under water later in the year, the town of birmingham is flooded just south and in the middle.Running south from there to say around kenlake is nerve racking to say the least,in the back channel, ive been on it maybe 6 times, and a boater I was with over a week ago ran aground and hes lived here 30 years.

Fish should be prespawn mode as water temp is behind.

As for the map it was given to me by the city of Grand rapids when fishing the aba finals.

It does have brush piles as well as foundations marked on it.

Let us know how you did, expect a report.

Well, I sure do appreciate it.

This is probably a dumb question, but do you need anything brought down from up here?  Nothing too big of course, but if you left anything behind let me know and I'll see if we can squeeze it in.

Mechanic called today and says he can find nothing wrong.  I am still not convinced, but I guess I have to take their word for it. Nothing worse than being out in the boat wondering if your engine is going to blow.  Oh well.  Hopefully they are correct and I am just being paranoid.
