The scary thing about Kentucky Lake is that shallow bar you're showing might not show on the gps charts and it might be four feet under water at summer pool and six inches under water in the fall…

Very well described,one cannot fathom how high or rough until actually on it.

This pic was taken when lake was calmer look at the very small waves in teh background then look at a breaker.Thats what they call them breakers ,shallow areas that mimic the ocean,those condos across the lake get to view the breakers regularly.

The interesting thing about that photo is it doesn't really look all that rough.  It's hard to show in a photo wave height.  The spacing too of the waves can become interesting as well.  Then you throw in the occasional wave that is two feet taller than the others and it's easy to get some "air" on Kentucky Lake.


I think part of it is due to the fact that the current flow is from south to north, but much of the wind comes from the north heading south.  When the river flow butts heads with the wind, it makes for some odd currents and waves.
