Yeah, I suppose you're right, but all this thinking makes my head hurt!  Surprised

Funny thing happened on the way to grandma's house…

I'm going to post it here although it's relative to phishing and physics…

I had posted a question on rodbuilding.org. Basically the question was "How important is rod sensitivity if someone uses a line touch method when fishing". The answer was – it's still paramount that a rod be sensitive. Then the physicst got involved and the question evolved. I have come to find out that as a signal(bite) moves from a less dense carrier to a carrier to carrier having more density – the signal increases in both amplitude and frequency. What I do not know is if only the mass changes if using a material of the same compostion but differs in size – 15# vs 17#'s. O'l Marty may be on to something and isn't telling the "why" but it's beginning to make sense(pun intended) why he uses a heavier test on the leader.

I've got a question in to the physics guru's relative to only a mass change and how that impacts the signal. If you are of the belief that it doesn't matter and is of little use… Just remember – a lot of littles added together equal a lot.

Yeah, that has to be a typo on the mainline/leader weights.  I can't imagine throwing a heavier leader than mainline.

As for being a "shallow water" technique, I can see that happening.  However I think I'd be throwing something different.  Probably a fluke or wacky rigged stick bait.  But it does give me something to think about, throwing a c-rig….

In this months BassMaster there is an article on C'rigging with Marty Stone. For anyone interested in this technique it makes for interesting reading. I believe there is at least one misprint in the article when describing the tackle he uses. In the article it says Marty uses 15# Vicious flurocarbon main line and 17# flurocarbon leader. I say "HUH"? Marty also reveals his guide lines relative to weights/depth. 3-10' – 3/4oz., 10-20' – 1 1/4oz and 20'+ 1 1/2oz.

I said "HUH" to the use of 15# flurocarbon main line for two reasons. It's atypical to use a heavier leader than main line when c'rigging. And it's a bit of a stretch(pun intended) to believe he's throwing 1.5oz. weights on 15# flurocarbon.

Marty also said something in that article I wish he's "sudd'up" about.  What's that you ask? You may have already figured it out when you read, with arched eyebrow, depth… 3-10'. Most think that c'rigging is exclusively a deep water technique. Not so li'l grasshopper – I've caught some of my best fish in that 3-10' range. As long as my bait hits water at the end of a cast I have confidence c'riggin' will put fish in the boat.

Just an additional note: My least productive days with a c'rig are during high presssure, cloudless days. I will fish this technique under these conditions but my confidence level and expectations are not near as high as when fishing under partly cloudy to full over cast conditions.
